Application Process

2009 - 2010 Academic Year

For the academic year 2009-2010, our Year 7, 8 and 9 groups are already heavily over-subscribed. If you send in an application we will put your child on our waiting list. Please note that admissions tests for Years 7, 8 and 9 will not be carried out until further notice.

Testing for Year 10 and Year 12 groups will be held in May 2009 and June 2009. The school will contact applicants individually for an admissions test and an interview. Applicants will be informed if they are to be offered a place after the admission test and interview. A deposit of $16,000 is required to secure the place. The deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable but will be offset against the fees for the first term. Applicants not offered an admissions test and interview will be placed on our waiting list.

To be considered for a place at Sha Tin College, please visit the ESF website at http://www.esf.edu.hk/index.aspx?nodeID=1039&langno=1 and submit the ESF online application form.

Admissions Criteria

  • Places will be offered to successful applicants subject to availability.
  • Only one application may be submitted per student.
  • Students can only apply to the school in their zone (except Year 7 students applying during the central applications period).
  • Students must be able to cope with an English-medium curriculum. Please see language requirements.
  • We prioritise applications by category (see below) and by date of application.
  • Applicants in category one will be invited for interview before those in category two, regardless of the date of application.

Category One: Children who speak English as a first or alternative language but do not speak Cantonese and/or read and write Chinese characters.

Category Two: Children who can access the local system of schooling but who also meet ESF's entrance requirements.

Within each category priority will be given to students who:

  • are siblings of children already attending an ESF school;
  • are former students returning from a period overseas;
  • have a parent who is a full-time employee of ESF;
  • are the children of former ESF students.

Residential Zones

Residential zones govern admission to all schools within the English Schools Foundation. To apply for admission to Sha Tin College, parents must live within the New Territories, including the Ma On Shan side of Tolo Inlet and Three Fathoms Cove. In addition, a small area within the Kowloon Peninsula (north of Lung Cheung Road and Norfolk Road to include Piper's Hill [Monkey Hill], Broadcast Drive and Beacon Hill) is also included within the school zone. Please note that Number One Beacon Hill does not fall within the school zone.
