5.2 Rural-urban interrelationship
The problem of urban encroachment on rural land is very evident in Hong Kong as the population rises to over 7 million in an area of just over 1000 square kilometre. Where there was once paddy fields and vegetable gardens, you are more likely to find 28 storey flats connected by ever growing network of roads and railways. Thousands of people have been moved in the last thirty years in Hong Kong to make way for New Towns, reservoirs, reclaimed land and a new airport.
