Below is a copy of the letter which goes to all parents of Senior School Students regarding dress code...

Dear Parent,

Students in Years 12 and 13 are privileged in that they do not have a designated uniform and are able to make considered and discretionary decisions about their school attire. As you are aware, students sign a Contract upon entering the Senior School and undertake to abide by the rules and expectations of the College. We brief them, in detail, about their rights and responsibilities in the context of post compulsory education and our efforts to encourage in them autonomy and maturity.

Our Dress Code is the product of much consultation. It adopts a very just and, in many ways, liberal approach. It comprises a series of guidelines which were drawn up by the student Senior School Committee in 1999 and which we still adhere to, as it is sound and reasonable. A copy of the Code is attached for your information.

We are particularly keen that we all work in unison to encourage the students to wear suitable clothing, particularly trousers, which are well fitting and inoffensive. As you can see, other aspects of the Dress Code require that students consult with a member of the Senior School Team to obtain approval if they are uncertain about suitability of items.

We would like you to be aware that ALL teachers in the College will be vigilant about ensuring students comply with the Code. Our approach to standards is consistent. If a student is deemed to be infringing the spirit of the Dress Code she/he will be requested to meet the expected standards and to be in appropriate dress the next day. If a further infringement occurs, the student will be asked to return home and change. The time spent out of lessons complying with this demand will be made up by the student in her/his own time.
