Overview of Guidance and Achievement

“Guidance and achievement attends to the voice of the learner, supports student engagement,
facilitates meaningful relationships, fosters positive attitudes and is concerned with the unique profile
of each individual.”

Our concept of guidance and achievement embraces a caring school ethos, fosters concern for the welfare and progress of each individual student and emphasises mutual respect and harmony. While it is self-evident that the attainment of this aim is the responsibility of all teachers throughout the school day, the roles of the Heads of Section, Heads of Year, Deputy Heads of Year and Tutors are pivotal. Working collaboratively, these people are responsible for the implementation of the school' s formal system of guidance and achievement. Through daily Tutor Time, assemblies, mentoring and individual contact, this team enacts our aims and policies. Specifically, all students can be confident that we have a relationship with them, closely oversee their progress and provide relevant supervision and guardianship. We respond to any issues or difficulties students encounter in professional, non-judgemental ways in an effort to enable and empower them to ultimately help themselves.

“The Guidance Team works from the perspective that student welfare is an integral aspect of our school culture.”

At the core of the Guidance and Achievement Team is the STUDENT. All of us: the Principal, the Vice Principal, Heads of Section, Heads and Deputy Heads of Year, Tutors, our social worker, counsellor, medical officer, subject teachers and the Senior School student leaders have student welfare, attainment and fulfilment as their central mission; these drive our daily practice. We work in partnership with the CAS coordinator, Head of HE and Careers, outside agencies, all the administrative staff and, vitally, the parents.
