Home Work


Homework is regularly set. The aim of homework is to enable students to learn to work independently, as well to consolidate and reinforce what occurs during lessons. Types of homework vary across subjects. For example, it may comprise regular, short pieces and other larger assignments. Some will be extending learning, some reading, some researching and some writing.

In addition to the set homework, students are encouraged to spend extra time reading both for
pleasure and research purposes. This is particularly important for those whose first language is not
English, but it applies to every student. All homework must be recorded in the Diary. If none is set,
which happens occasionally, then the student must record “None set”. Parents are requested to check homework and to sign each week that all tasks are satisfactorily completed. Queries and comments about homework are communicated to parents and Tutors through the Diary. Senior School students are not required to have their diairies signed but should use them to record homework tasks.

This is an approximate guide as to our expectations, on average, per night:

Year 7                   1 - 1.5 hours
Years 8—9            1- 1.5 hours
Years 10—11         1.5 - 2 hours

Applied Learning Students are expected to spend a maximum of 10 hours per week on homework.

IB Diploma Students should spend, in an average week, approximately 15 hours on their homework (3 hours per HL subject and 2 hours per SL subject).
