Mission Statement
The Sha Tin College Science department strives to provide an exciting, international environment in which science education is seen as a key component to the overall formal programme offered to our students. We aim to stimulate students through Science and to develop their intrinsic curiosity to explore the natural world through experimentation and reasoning.
We are committed to providing the best possible teaching and learning experiences for every individual through the medium of English.
We aim to provide a well-balanced and challenging Science curriculum within a caring atmosphere. Students and staff are encouraged to develop as individuals and reach their full potential through a wide range of learning opportunities and professional development
Faculty Aims
- provide a broad and balanced experience of Science at a level appropriate for each student;
- encourage students to be aware of the relevance of their learning in Science to the whole curriculum and to see linkages between the various fields of study where Science is just one important part;
- enable every individual to achieve their full academic and personal potential;
- develop within students the ability to think analytically, critically and creatively to solve problems, judge arguments and make decisions in scientific and other contexts;
- foster a spirit of enquiry, the confidence to ask questions and provide a focus for students’ imagination, enjoyment and appreciation of Science;
- encourage students to communicate scientific ideas, arguments and practical experiences accurately in a variety of ways
- provide equality of opportunity for all students, within an English speaking environment , in a safe, secure, stimulating and positive environment
- provide learning opportunities which reflect and are relevant to the international and multi-cultural composition of our student body and to encourage international mindedness
- promote in students a sense of responsibility towards themselves and others as well as an awareness of the impact of Science on the community, health and well-being, the environment and international and global issues
- encourage staff within the department to realise their full potential through active participation, participatory management and professional development.
