The Library and Learning Centre
The Library is the central resource provider for staff and students. It aims to provide a friendly learning environment and meet the recreational and curricular needs of both students and staff. The main aim of the library is to provide a dynamic learning environment which enables students to:
• develop a lifelong interest and enjoyment in reading and learning
• become confident library users throughout their lives
• become independent learners
• be confident using a variety of resources, including information technology
• value learning as a lifelong process
• demonstrate appropriate information skills development
The Library houses a wide collection of fiction, non-fiction and reference books and an extensive audio-visual collection.
The library is fully automated with a bank of computers for student use for research only. The library subscribes to a large number of magazines, newspapers and online databases for student and staff reference. The Library OPAC (Catalogue) and online data bases can be accessed remotely (off site) from the Library Page on the SMART. From an individual library account students have the capacity to check their current loans, reserve resources and their loan history. Students should ensure that they have a current user name and password to access the SMART as the library page acts as a virtual library where a range of resources and information is available. The Library page and our library blog provides oup to date news and information aobut the library and is an invaluable aid to research both at home and at school.
