UK Senior Mathematics Challenge (UKSMC)
In early November, 29 students in Years 12 and 13 took part in this demanding competition. Results have recently arrived and we expect to have certificates shortly after Christmas. This year our students have achieved 4 Gold, 8 Silver and 12 Bronze awards.
Gold award winners: Dalton Fung & Olivia Yu (Year 13), Wendy Zhou & Jason Fan (Year 12)
Special congratulations to Dalton and Wendy: Dalton recently sat the British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) which is a very challenging, invitation-only 3½ hour challenge. Wendy sat the invitation-only “Senior Kangaroo” competition – results from both of these are expected after Christmas.

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC)
The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) took place during the summer holidays this year. For the first time, it was not possible to move the date from early August, and therefore the competition could not be held at school.
Despite this, 15 students from Sha Tin College took the initiative to enter the competition themselves, which was held at HK Polytechnic in Hung Hom. Results and certificates have recently arrived, and will be distributed soon by Mathematics teachers. Congratulations to all who took part:

A special mention goes to Dalton Fung (13F) who achieved a Prize Certificate. This is to acknowledge Dalton achieving in the top 2% in Hong Kong. Well done!
Next year the AMC will be held on 2 August 2012 (again during the summer holidays). Details on how to enrol will be made available nearer the time (during Term 3).
UK Junior Maths Competition

Special congratulations to Hok Leung Nip who achieved the best result for our school.
Hok is the only student at Sha Tin College who was invited to take part in the Junior Mathematical Olympiad (JMO), and he went on to achieve a Distinction in this demanding competition.
This means that Hok has recently received 3 certificates: Gold (JMC),
Best in School, and Distinction (JMO). Well done, Hok!
