Dear Parents,

Re:‘Flu situation at the Sha Tin campus

We were notified on Friday (4th September) afternoon that Sha Tin Junior School has been directed by the authorities to close to students for a period of 7 days - so will be closed for classes all of next week, hopefully re-opening on Monday 14th September. This decision by the authorities was prompted by a continuous rise in the number of flu-like cases amongst the Junior School's student body.

As you are aware, Sha Tin College is experiencing a similar continuous rise in the number of student absences due to flu-like symptoms and with more cases being officially diagnosed as H1N1. We have been monitoring the situation very carefully and have been in daily contact with the Centre for Health Protection and have kept the Education Bureau informed.

As far as we know, at this point in time, Sha Tin College will be open for classes on Monday 7th September and we will be clearer on the absence situation and number of new cases after the weekend break. The situation could, of course, change rapidly and we need to prepare for the possibility of school closure for students.

I would like to assure you that, in the event of closure of the College for a period of time, we will continue to support your son or daughter’s education through a range of e-learning procedures that we have planned in order to minimize the disruption to classes.

I will keep you informed of this situation and plan to update you on Monday 7th September.

Yours sincerely,

John Nixon
Principal – Sha Tin College
